Christmas Quilt's

Woop, Woop! I did it! the Quilt's are done in time for Christmas! I thought this day would never come. I finished the first quilt in August and now it's December and I just compleated the last one. I am so very proud of myself, there were a few times when i thought to myself "I dont know if I will get these done...". I am so glad that i pushed myself, I sometimes work late into the night- 1, 2 and sometimes 3 in the morning i would be quilting. it was hard work but so worth my time. I can't wait to see the look on the kids faces when they see thier favorit character or colors on their quilts.

These are some burp rags I made to go along with the Winnie the Pooh quilt I made a few months/weeks ago. I dont remember exactly how long ago I made it but, I just made these and I think the set in going to look very nice together.

Dun-dun-dun-dun (in a sing-song voice)! Here it is! This is the back of my son's quilt, it is the part of the quilt that took me the longest to make. Laying it out took me about 5 hours! Once it was layed out I had to number each row so that I made sure to sew them in the right order. OMG! It was a lot of work and somewhere along the way a few of the rows moved out of order and I would have to do another quick lay out of a few rows. But look at it now! Doesnt it look so nice!? Well, I think it looks nice...

I still have to make the front part (so I guess I'm not realy done) but that will only take a few hours because I am just going to border a pannel. Then it's off to quilting and binding, so another day of work and it will be ready. I will post pics once it is fully and compleatly done.

Thanks for coming along on this adventure with me!

Till nest time, have fun sewing!

Ballerina

Yay! Yay! Yay! I have almost finished my Christmas quilts, I only have one more to make.

This one was made for my daughter. She says that when she grows up she wants to be a ballerina. This quilt was quilted and binded with glow in the dark thread. I tried to get a picture of it glowing but it would'nt work.

Till next time, have fun sewing.

Hexies- part 1

What can I say about hexies....they are so much fun!

This is one of the things I mad from the things I bought at Joann's on Black Friday. It is a Scrappy Hexie Rag Quilt. It is one of two I am making. The next one is going to be the same pattern but it will be in boy colors.

As you can see in the photos, I kind of showed how I put them together. The first pic. showes all the cut out hexie flannel fabric and (poly) batting. I cut my fabric hexies about 5 1/2" around and the batting hexies at about 4". Then I layered or sandwiched the three pieces, flannel, batting, flannel, and then sewed them together. Next I sewed the hexies into rows and then sewed the rows together leaving the seem sticking out on one side. Once everything is sewn together, using you siccors, cut notches into all the sticking out seems. That is what will give your quilt the rag look. When you finish you need to wash the quilt. IT IS GOING TO BE MESSY! Most people will tell you to take it to a laundrymat, I dont like to do that. So, what I do is wash the quilt by its self on superwash cycle (i also like to put my downey ball in the wash to help fray the quilt). When it's done washing take it to an open space and shake off as much of the lint clumps as you can. When you dry the quilt make sure your lint trap is empty because it is going to be very linty.

I had a blast making this quilt and I hope you do too.

Till next time, have fun sewing!

Score!!!

Went shopping this morning and boy did I score! I got all this for $60. I could have bought more but I was on a budget and I was afraid of going over my limit. After I was done at the cut table, I was kicking myself for not getting more fabric. Oh well, next time.

Joanns is having an amazing sale today (black friday).

Earings

Trinitie asked me to make her some earings and so we sat down and picked some out some beads. This is what we came up with.

If you remember from a few posts ago I said I had just started beading. Well since then I have bought more beads but I dont have the tools I need to shape the wire,so I had to bend and twist the wire with my fingers and my I say, OUCH! I think its time to get the tools. Bet my Husband will like that...

Till next time, have fun sewing (crafting)!

Cranberrie Jam

I love the holidays! It's the time of the year when I get to make things I don't usually get to make. I thought I would get started a little early this year by making a large batch of cranberrie jam. I can't wait to share with family and friends.

Kaylie's Quilt

This quilt was a lot of fun to make. It was my first try making pinwheels and I wont say they were hard to make, but they were challenging. I think that after doing them a few times i'll be able to breeze right threw them.

Now that I'm done with this one I have two more to do. Fewf! I can't believe I am almost done! When I started this project I wasn't sure if I could do it, but I sure am glad I tried.

Charms!

This is my latest project... Like I need anymore, lol. I stumbled into this craft on accident. I was on youtube watching a tutorial for something else when my attention was drawn to some beads. So I watched the video and it was of a woman making charms. I. Was. Hooked!

The next weekend I started buying beads. That same weekend I went to the goodwill looking for tea cups ( for another project...) And I found a case fool of all kind of beads, clasps, wire, hat pins and other fun stuff, for two dollars! So I got to work. So far I've made three charms and one neck.

It's been a fun distraction but I think it's time to go back top the sewing machine.

Spiderman

This quilt was the hardest thing I have ever sewn together! I have been working on this quilt on and off for more than a month and I am so happy that it is finally finished.

The hardest part of this quilt was getting the black boarders to line up strait. Another challeng was the kind of fabric I used, black and blanket like, it pulled and stretched in every direction, making alignment very difficult! But, I did it! I got it done and I am so happy with the way it turned out.

On that note... I have compleated 4 quilt and have 4 more to go. I am at the half way point on the next one and then I move one to the "more difficult" quilt. I am realy looking forward to it. =]

Yeehaw!

A few weeks ago Trinitie was invited to a western themed birthday party and I had no idea what she was going to wear. So I went looking through my fabric container and found some Denim like fabric. Yes, I made her, her outfit for the party. It is not the best quality item i've made but it works for the party.

Strawberry Shortcake

This is my latest creation and by far the easiest I have attempted. It is a Strawberry Shortcake themed rag quilt. From start to finish it took me about four hours. All there is to it is to sew the two layers of squares together with the seam sticking out on one side. It was so much fun to make and I cant wait to make another.

So, on and on I go! At the moment I am working on a receiving blanket sized quilt that has a Winnie the Pooh print. It is coming along nicely.
I have also done a Spiderman print quilt that I am half way done with. Boy - o - boy that quilt has been a pain in my neck! There were many complications but in the end I was very happy with what I made.

When I finish the next two I will share them with you. Hopefully I will be able to stay on track and finish them all on time.

Till next time, have fun sewing!

Princess and the Frog

YAY ME! I finished quilt number 1!

I am so excited to be done with # 1! when I started cutting and laying out this quilt the first thing I discovered was that I hadn't bought enough fabric. Well, I had bought enough but because of how I cut I ended up running out. After drawing up several different patterns I ended up with a completely different design than the one I had intended on making. In the end I was very happy with what I had made.

So now I going to get started on quilt # 2, hopefully it will go a little smoother. I will keep you updated with my progress.

Till next time, have fun sewing!

Quilts, Quilts & More Quilts!

So, this year I thought it would be fun, and a good idea, to make quilt for Christmas. I have no idea what I was thinking!!! After much thought, I decided that I would only do them for the kids. So that leaves me with 4 1/2 months to make 9 quilts (oh and 2 costumes for haloween). I have faith in my dedication and my will NOT to quit! I will get them done on time!

Ok, so I have a game plan. I will (try to) do one a week and give myself all of october to to costumes. if I stick to the plan I should be able to get them done on time. This week I started and have almost compleated my first quilt. It is a princess and the frog themed quilt. I have chosen three different flannels-lilac, purple P & F and pink P & F. I have also picked a heavy fuzzy green blanket type fabric and for the back I selected an all over print of P & F flees.

I am very excited to show all my finished quilts! I will post them as I finish.

Till next time, have fun sewing!

my first cross stitch

Lately I have been wanting to learn how to cross stitch and a recent trip to a friends house helped me decided I was going to give it a try. She kind of showed me the basics on what to do, so I got a few starter kits and got to work. The piece I did was only 2" long, it was a lot of fun and I can't wait to do a larger project.

kids pants

I found this site a couple of years ago when I was looking for an easy way to make pants fast. Since then I have made a bunch of pants in all shapes and sizes, I even modified the design to help me make my son's buzz lightyear costume. Because of this site I no long buy over priced kids pajamas. I love it and I hope you do too! Rookiemoms.com/make-some-easy-kids-pants
